The Korean Alien Registration Card ARC is basically your green card. It is your shows your status in Korea (F2,F4,E2 etc…) and is issued to you after you arrive in Korea.
So, how do you get an Alien Card? After a visa run to Japan or after arriving in Korea with your visa stamped into your passport by a Korean Consulate you should be able to go straight to Korean immigration and apply for your ARC. However, E2 Visa holders will remember that they filled out, signed and sent an E-2 Applicant’s Health Statement with their all their other required E2 Visa documents. Now it is time for the medical exam performed at a designated public hospital in Korea (it costs around 60,000 won) to back up that form. What fun!
Once you get the results from the medical exam you can head over the immigration office nearest you. Here are directions to Korean immigration for Seoul and how to get an new ARC if you loose yours.
The Alien Registration Card is crucial to get as you need this card to get Korean national medical insurance, a cell phone, internet, register for online shopping sites and because it is required by law that you do it within 90 days.
Good luck getting yours!
